Sometimes I’ve run into a design problem that I knew I could solve with a simple solution. My story explains my quest to find a free standing towel rack, and how it changed my master bath from almost perfect to exactly right.

Several years ago I was involved in a challenging home renovation project. We bought a 120-year-old Queen Anne Victorian, a house that had been the victim of several non-sympathetic additions and adaptations. Our goal was to restore the house to something close to its original state, preserving its character but still updating it so it would be comfortable for a modern family to live and work in.

I discovered that is more difficult to work within the confines of an existing building than to build a new one. It wasn’t impossible, mind you, and a surprising number of details fell into place quite easily.

I was particularly happy when we were able to create a traditional master bath with contemporary features. We found reproduction tile and re-used solid wood doors original to the home. Our new master bath was as perfect as I could imagine.

Perfect, that was, until it was time to install a towel bar. We had no place to screw anything into the wall within reach of the shower. Pocket doors, plumbing, lack of a reasonable expanse of wall-I had no place to hang a towel. But I knew there had to be a solution. I was on a quest to find a free standing towel rack.

Although I hadn’t seen them anywhere at the time, I knew the free standing towel rack couldn’t be a far-fetched idea. I was thinking of a quilt rack, but none were narrow enough for the space I was trying to fill. Eventually, I found a free standing towel rack in an in-flight catalog. It was a rare and lucky find.

The idea must have had merit, because today, you can find a free standing towel rack in a wide variety of sizes, finishes, and features. If you have limited floor space and need a place to hang the terrycloth, you can find a simple free standing towel rack on post and a weighted base. The post is topped with an S-shaped hanging rod, or a set of free-swinging bars on the top of the post, or an open oval rack. With this free standing towel rack, there’s plenty of room to hang a few towels while taking up less than a square foot of floor space. And if you want to hang hand towels and don’t have the nearby wall space for a conventional towel bar, you can get a countertop version of the free standing towel rack, too.

An elegant solution follows my instincts about using a quilt rack. Today you can find a free standing towel rack in all the popular hardware finishes. They are now readily available, and they provide two or three hanging rods–enough space to hang towels for a whole family. A base shelf on a free standing towel rack can store folded towels and spare bathroom essentials.

Another innovative design for the free standing towel rack is a towel ladder. Even if you have limited passage in your bathroom, the floor space that the ladder takes up is minimal, and you can hang four towels is less than two feet of wall space.

If you have space in your bathroom, another free standing towel rack takes its design from the étagère. Rather than having open shelves, this rack uses side bars for hanging towels. It gives you hanging space on four sides, and might give you hanging space for outside for pool towels.

Drawer handles can come in many different shapes and sizes. There are also many different materials and styles available. In fact, there are so many choices when it comes to selecting handles that the decision can seem like a major one. However, understanding a little bit about all of the aspects of choosing drawer handles can really help you make an informed and high quality decision.

Shapes and Sizes

One of the first things you will notice while shopping for handles is all of the different shapes and sizes that are available. If you decide to purchase metal drawer handles, then take into account any metal allergies anyone in your family might have. Other than that, there is really no difference in durability among the different kinds of metal.

Other materials include stone, which is increasing in popularity, despite its very high price. Many people appreciate stone hardware because it matches their granite counter tops. Glass is also becoming more and more popular as a material simply because so many people like that wider selection of colors that are available.

Of course the type of material you choose for your drawer handles plays right into the style. Metal handles tend to be very sleek, while glass drawer handles are fun and festive. While the fully integrated machine remains completely hidden, the semi integrated one is visible from the cabinet’s top.

The semi integrated one is fairly cheaper too when compared to the fully integrated one. The budget difference is around 404 pounds. Thus, before going or deciding upon any one, you may choose to check your wallet

The dishwashers from the top companies have an A+ accreditation and thus can be relied upon to be energy efficient. It performs both the tasks of washing and the drying too is superb. You don’t have any reason to worry with the problem of overflowing with this appliance since it is fitted with the anti-spill functionality. The water use is as economical as possible with the benefit of you to use alternative water spraying. This product costs you around 335pounds.

The integrated dishwasher machines will cost you around 455.88 pounds. They too have the A+ rating making it energy efficient if they are under the best brands. They have a self cleaning accessory along with 12 types of settings. You can avail several models between the range of 400 pounds to 750 pounds.

Being a product having a triple ‘A’ rating and scores well in regards to efficiency and water saving. They consume around 16% lesser water when compared with other products of this type. With a price tag of 1508 pounds, they usually have a two year warranty period.

Available between 550 pounds and 1100 pounds, many other semi-integrated models too are energy efficient. They perform well both while washing the dishes and drying them.

As evident there are a wide range of products to choose from. Since products under different brands come under different price tags, the amount of money you can allocate buying a dishwasher is the prime thing to decide before actually buying the product. After you decide upon your budget, the next thing you should do is to search for products suited for you in that range.

For some people the design of the product holds no value while for others it’s a serious issue. You very well do know which category you yourself fall into. Another question that usually crops out is whether it is easy loading the utensils and dishes into the appliance or not. You should know the maximum sized plate that the product can fit in itself. If you use dishes larger than you could wash, it’s useless going for the product. The customer’s reviews help a lot in this respect. The next thing you should look for is an accreditation defining the energy efficiency of the product. An energy star label means that you can do more with your product. Being energy efficient saves not only your money but also is a good thing for the environment. You should try and make your products as green as possible. The last of the things is the durability of the product. It’s a loss buying a product that has a more probability of getting damaged within months. Research wisely because it your hard earned money that you are going to invest.

Almost every homeowner in the country has a sofa of some kind in their house and many of us actually have several sofas in our homes. We spend a large amount of time sat on our sofas and anyone who owns a sofa will know particularly if they have children and pets just how easily they can get dirty. When it comes to cleaning the walls and floors in our homes it is often relatively easy however when it comes to cleaning sofas it is often much more difficult due to the turns and folds in the fabric. It does not matter what the size or style of sofa you own whether it be a large corner sofa or a two seater sofa they all have their own difficulties when it comes to cleaning them.

There are of course some preventative measures which you can use to protect your sofa from the wear and tear of everyday life. A popular option is to use a throw which can be easily removed and put through the washing machine regularly. Although this will stop you from actually been able to see the sofa and therefore is not a solution for everybody. It is also wise to not position your sofa in direct sunlight as over time the sofa will fade if left in the sun.

When it comes to actually cleaning your sofa the methods vary greatly depending on the material the sofa is made from. Leather sofas are a popular choice as they are notoriously easy to keep clean. Usually a once over with a vacuum cleaner and a wipe with a damp cloth will more than suffice and keep your sofa looking in top condition.

Fabric sofas however require slightly more effort. Again giving them a once over with a vacuum cleaner will help. You will probably need to be more vigorous with a fabric sofa than you would be with a leather sofa as the dirt is able to get impregnated in the fabric. Many fabric sofas come with loose covers this is ideal as you are able to remove the covers and wash them using a washing machine. However not all fabric sofas have removable covers, in this situation in order to remove stains they will need to be cleaned using mild soapy water. It is important to ensure you do not get the fabric too wet and try to dry the fabric as quickly as possible.

Decide exactly what kind of couch you are looking for, taking color, size, and shape into account.  Finding cheap sofas is going to be a lot easier if you have a general idea of what you are looking for; it would be terrible if you did find the perfect sofa that fit your budget perfectly and then got it home only to realize it does not go with your existing décor.  

Keep in mind, when hunting cheap sofas, that in order to be cheap they are probably not returnable.  With this in mind it might be a good idea to measure the space you are going to put it in, and measure the doorway while you’re at it.  Take all this into consideration or the cheapest of the cheap sofas will be a really expensive garage sofa.  

When you are out shopping for cheap sofas it never hurts to ask the store for a discount.  Ask them if they will make you a deal for buying the one that is sitting out on display rather than purchasing one in warehouse.  Also, perhaps they have some cheap sofas that have a small rip in the back, or a missing button on the arm.  A lot of cheap sofas can be found like this and if the damage is inconspicuous, it matters little.  

While you are out shopping for sofas, don’t avoid the local consignment shops: Goodwill, Salvation Army and similar stores will often have amazing deals on some incredibly unique furniture.  Sometimes you might even get lucky and find that perfect retro sofa you’ve been looking for, but couldn’t find at any of the other stores.  When shopping for cheap sofas creativity is the key.  Sometimes you might find the perfect match in style, but the color is just a little off; which is fine, don’t forget you can always buy a cover for it.  Don’t worry about the small stain on the seat cushion; what better reason to buy some new decorative pillows?  A little creativity will make the entire experience not only fun, but it opens up a whole new realm of cheap furniture to be discovered. 

When you are looking to buy a new sofa, don’t stop looking at the first place you shop.  There’s probably something similar or in a style or color you haven’t considered at the next shop.  Always remember to check yard sales and second hand stores for cheap sofas as you will usually find the best deals there.  Be creative and diligent in your search and happiness with your purchase is sure to follow.
