How to Successfully Bake With Silicone Bakeware
Many home chefs have not embraced this newest line of bakeware products, some of us have been slightly cautious to let go of our traditional metal and glass baking pans that have stood the test of time, long enough to even test out a silicone pan.
The bright colors attract our attention, their general construction that raises a few skeptic bakers’ eyebrows. However, manufacturers have been vary quick to open our eyes of folding pans and overflowing batter, by designing optional or campanion racks or ‘sleds’ that provide the much-needed stability especially for the larger pans.
If you haven’t yet tried one of these, you may be pleasantly surprised, I was. I started out slowly at first with a muffin pan shich were very economical no big risk, and these quickly captured this baker’s heart.
Goodby medal bakeware -hello silicone bakeware. They can take the heat and they can take the fridged cold in a freezer. After a year and considerable mileage they still look like new.
Since my silicone muffin pan passed the test, it was on to bigger silicone bakware, a general purpose loaf pan. To grease or not to grease the bakeware was the question, and I opted for “not” trusting the silicone would work its releasing magic.
Result were terrific-quick even baking and cooling. What was most impressive was the easy loaf removal. A slight twist or should I say movement of the pan, and sides just pulling away, showing an evenly baked delicious banana bread loaf that gently rolled out onto the cutting board.
The pan is slightly smaller than a regular bread pan, which trquired transferring a small amount of batter to a single-serving pan. No problem, neighbors were happy to share in the baking.
Silicone bakeware is made of FDA-approved food grade silicone and should denote this on the packaging label. Each piece of silicone has its own limitation as to manufacturer recommended maximum oven temperature, and this is uaualy stamped on the product.
Decorative Bath Towels – The Focal Point of Your Bathroom
There are many things you can do with decorative bath towels to give your bathroom some style and life. They can add much color and texture to a bathroom, and are very often the prime design element in decorating. You can use your decorative bath towels as a focal point to design around.
Decorative bath towels don’t have to be confined to a towel rack. Some other ideas would be to roll them up in a basket, or in stacks on a shelf unit. Varying the colors in the stacked piles presents a pleasing effect, as it complements the towels on the rack.
It will also produce a nice effect to match your decorative towels with the shower curtain and bath mats. This will tie the room together and can make the room look complete.
Texture is also an item to consider with your decorative bath towels – highly textured towels will give the room a warmer more luxurious look. Egyptian cotton is popular as it is very textured and luxurious in both look and feel. Pima cotton is an American high-quality plush cotton that rivals Egyptian cotton and is gaining more popularity. It is generally more affordable than Egyptian cotton at this point as well.
Organic cotton is the most preferable material to use in my opinion as it is made without pesticides. Due to the growing awareness of being health and environment-conscious, organic cotton is being offered now in many more styles and colors and is more environmentally responsible not to mention healthier. Most people are unaware of the fact that 25% of the world’s pesticides are used on cotton plants, and cotton only accounts for approximately 3% of the world’s agriculture.
Decorative bath towels can also be themed – for instance, tropical themes are popular and many patterns are available, especially now with the vast number of internet merchants selling towels. Bright colors will make for a lively feel, while muted colors such as ivory, beige, and linen make for a more relaxed calm effect.
It would be a shame to fail to fully decorate the bathroom, as many people do. It really takes very little to bring it upscale and make it a pleasant and enjoyable place to be. As we spend a good deal of time getting ourselves ready for the day in our bathrooms, a little attention and a small investment in some well-chosen decorative bath towels will go a long way. Make them the focal point of your bathroom, and add small pieces along the way.
Taking Care of Kid’s Clothes
Kids are tough on clothes, so you have to be tough on taking care of them. It can be so frustrating having to buy another pair of jeans, another shirt or jacket because it is just worn out, when they are probably going to grow out of it before long. Some of this wear and tear can be prevented by taking a few extra precautions with your children’s clothing. If you will take note of these simple tips on laundry and storage and spend only a couple extra minutes per day, you can keep your kids clothes looking great.
As you are gathering up your kid’s clothes from around the house or out of the clothes hamper, be sure to empty all of the pockets and close all zippers (to keep them from snagging). Make sure you read all of the labels of newer clothes and check the ones you are not sure of, and follow those instructions carefully. Turn each of the colored garments inside out. This prevents a little bit of fading. The normal color separation is then appropriate. Be sure to keep denims and whites separate from colors for the first three or four washes. Make sure all stains are pre-treated and holes or tears are mended before you put them in the washer.
Keep lint-producing garments separate from those that attract lint, especially dark colored clothing items, and wash whites in hot water. Of course you should wash bright colors and darks in cold water. Even though dryers are extremely convenient, drying your kid’s clothes on a clothes line will extend their life considerably. If you do decide to use a dryer, you should take the precaution of not overloading it and being sure to remove the clothes as soon as they are dry. Over drying is especially damaging to clothes.
Probably one of the most important parts of kid’s clothing protection is storing the clothes properly. Many people do not have the right kinds of hangers to store their kid’s clothes, and as a result, most of those clothes are folded, even if they really need to be hung. Purchasing some childrens clothes hangers will vastly improve the way your kid’s clothes are stored. Childrens coat hangers are also designed to keep those jackets and outer layers stored properly. Some parents think it is silly to use childrens clothes hangers, but they will really make a difference in the lifetime of your kid’s clothes. When it comes to folding, storing kid’s garments in plastic containers will actually preserve them better, and it is important to add cedar chips if your house is known to have moth problems.
Just a few simple things and an extra couple of minutes to every wash day can keep your children’s clothes looking new. Kids really are hard on clothes, but you don’t have to stand by and do nothing. Take a little action and save yourself the trouble of replacing your kid’s clothes too soon.
